Introduction

Somalia is a Maritime Nation that enjoys and lies in a very Strategic location in the Horn of Africa which makes the country a key player in the Maritime trade and Shipping. The Country is located in the Gulf of Aden and borders the Indian Ocean which are both globally strategic shipping lanes. Moreover, Somalia has the longest coastline in Africa, and it’s endowed with massive blue resources that can contribute and enhance the socio-economic growth of the country. Somalia’s ports are also crucial in facilitating international trade and are vital gateways for imports and exports.
The Ministry of Ports and Marine Transport (MPMT) of the Federal Government of Somalia is the Federal body that is mandated to regulate and oversee Somali Ports and maritime transportation sector. It is also tasked with the modernization, development and administration of Somali ports and other key Maritime Institutions.
